Country of birth
This section covers the country of birth of service users and the nature of the legal matters about which they inquire.
Services with available data are the Legal Aid NSW Advice Service, Legal Aid NSW Duty Solicitor Service, and NSW Community Legal Centres.
Country of birth was mapped to Law and Justice Foundation categories (see Table 32). These categories are based on geographic regions used by the Australian Bureau of Statistics,21
modified so that English-speaking countries (Australia, New Zealand, United Kingdom/Ireland and North America) are presented separately to non-English speaking countries. Some of the Australian Bureau of Statistics categories have been conflated, e.g. North-west, Southern and Eastern Europe are combined into Europe; and some have been further divided, e.g. Oceania has been divided into Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Islands.
