2008 Justice Awards
The 2008 Justice Awards were presented on 29 October 2008 at Parliament House, Sydney. The
2008 Law and Justice Address was delivered by The Hon Virginia Bell.
Justice Medal
Winner - Jane Sanders
Jane Sanders was awarded the Justice Medal for her work as Director of Shopfront Youth Legal Centre in Darlinghurst since it opened 15 years ago. Shopfront has helped thousands of young people in need and they have directly benefitted from Jane’s willingness to be contacted at all hours, at both ends of the day, and to make visits to people living in all kinds of circumstances.

Aboriginal Justice Award
Joint Winners - Ruth Simon de Costa and Norman Laing
Ruth received the Award in recognition for her role as an advocate and community legal educator for Aboriginal tenants and tenancy organisations.
Norman received the Award in recognition of the pro bono legal services he provided to young Aboriginal people and their communities.

Law and Justice Volunteer Award
Winner - James Condren
James received the Award for his extraordinary commitment as an advocate for people with intellectual disability. In particular, James has lobbied to draw attention to the plight of people with an intellectual disability caught up in the criminal justice system. He has also worked on the boards and committees of a number of key disability advocacy bodies.

Pro Bono Partnership Award
Winners - Arts Law Centre of Australia with DLA Phillips Fox
This partnership provides ongoing legal advice and assistance to Indigenous artists, especially through the Artists in the black project, and including the development of a will kit to help reduce the number of artists dying in teste.
