Social media

Media Access Australia has produced SociABILITY: Social media for people with disability,a report and practical tip sheets that are designed to help people with disabilities gain easy access to social media. The report draws on the knowledge of social media users with disabilities to overcome the difficulties found on Facebook, Twitter, Skype, Youtube, LinkedIn and blogging tools, and is funded by the Australian Communications Consumer Action Network (ACCAN).

• Ensure that your web site meets recognised usability and accessibility guidelines. At a minimum your site should meet the World Wide Web Consortium Priority 1 guidelines. For up-to-date information visit the Australian Government Information Management Office (AGIMO) who produce Techniques and Failures for Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.0.
• World Wide Web Access: Disability Discrimination Act Advisory Notes, Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission. These advisory notes are issued by the Australian Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission under section 67(1)(k) of the Disability Discrimination Act 1992. They are not legal requirements: they are advice on how to avoid discrimination.
