The Legal Information Standards Council is no longer active. This web site provides information about the activities of LISC between 1997 and 2001.
LISC was established by the Law Foundation of NSW and the NSW Law Society in 1997 to promote the development of standards for online legal information. During its existence LISC provided a valuable forum for commercial, non-profit and government legal publishing interests to meet and discuss issues involved in publishing legal information in the online environment. Significant achievements included the development of a set of Best practice guidelines for Australian legal web sites and Recommended standards for medium neutral citations.
Members of LISC recognised, however, that with the rapid expansion of online legal information, there was a need for a national rather than State forum and LISC ceased to operate in 2001.
