Indigenous Australians

Identifying needs and pathways
  • Low literacy in some communities — therefore think about using graphics, posters, comics and radio. Radio should be done in local indigenous languages to reach the widest audience.
  • Where possible, work with the communities to produce materials. Develop ideas and receive feedback at the very least
  • Good practice in consumer education for indigenous people, prepared by Gordon Renouf for Australian Securities and Investment Commission. (2002)
The report identifies indigenous specific consumer education and community legal education projects and discusses "good practice" principles for indigenous consumer education. The purpose of the report is to provide information and ideas that may assist ASIC, other agencies and possibly indigenous organisations and communities to undertake more effective consumer education.
